By: Claudia Nwankwo
The little I know about #BiafranWar my dad told me his personal experience. He is 83years old now and still hoping that Nigeria will get it right someday.
Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu |
My dad, Nickson Nwankwo joined the Biafran militia which later became the Biafran Army in 1967. He was drafted to fight at calabar and then owerri front where he fought combantantly without rest for 2 & half yrs at the war front.
He rose to the rank staff sergeant before his battalion was withdrawn to the rear. His batallion was redistributed and he was drafted to works as one of the escorts as to Major Gen. Phillip effiong.
Colonel Achuzia |
He also worked with Colonel Achuzia in the operations room as a stenographer typing friendly countrys report that were sent to friendly countries across the world.
He was Nicknamed Tankerkid in the Biafran Army. He lost his younger brother, Chukwuemeka Nwankwo (also a soldier) during the war. He returned to Lagos in 1970 after the war.
