We Take Too Many Things For Granted In This Clime
I've been reading with sadness about the lady who recently died from stabs just because a miscreant wanted to rob her laptop. So sad!
If we want to dissect the issues, there'll be more than enough blames to go round.
From the cold blooded thief to the first responders, the hospital, government etc. Of course, government takes the bulk of it. But what's the point?
May her soul rest in peace. 🙏
The neck is a very dangerous spot. Reminds me.. .Many years ago, I witnessed someone being shot in the neck. That instantly disconnected him from this life.
I was screaming "this guy go die here o! Let's take him to the hospital" literary "over reacting". He too still talking and acting manly but he was getting weaker.
Never seen that much blood before...
I quickly got my car and as soon as they took him in, just as i made my way towards the gate, he passed out. I jumped out the car & my colleagues took over. He was rushed to Ikeja Gen hospital that night.
There was no bed space. He was treated in my car. He went into coma about three times and each time, the doctors paused treatment. They could only hope he'd recover for them to continue. He was bleeding out very fast but thank God he made it. He spent a whole month hospitalised.
I was happy to see him recover. Glad I was there and had the quick thought that he was in danger because i'd seen something similar turn out bad (i guess).

As a people, our response to emergency is quite depressing.
The entire system within the country is a mess and we have a duty to at least show empathy, put humanity first and help others in need.
It is true that we have shortage of health professionals and a disastrous health system but some of these issues are not properly handled by first responders, largely due to ignorance.
We just do not know how to respond to emergencies. Some of the people at accident scenes would be more concerned about making videos than ensuring that one more life is not carelessly lost.

Also, to avoid police trouble, nobody wants to say I was there but isn't that some sort of callousness? What if that person was your family member? What if you become the victim?
It's not always the duty of government.
At what point do we take responsibility as reasonable individuals? What will it cost a health worker to empathize with patients? What would it take for a teacher to correct with love or even a road safety agent to direct confused motorists from a place of duty instead of waiting on when they make mistakes. What if that mistake turns fatal? It takes days for PHCN to react to naked wire complaints. Everything here is treated with levity.
The salary you CHOOSE to pay late may be costing somebody somewhere something worth much more.

Even in our homes. People are not so sensitive.
Some of us do not take time to observe our partner's body language, change in mood etc. Mothers don't pay attention to the changes in their babies. We don't turn ourselves in for check up when we feel a bit off with our health.
We just don't pay attention and its awful.

We take things for granted in this clime. It's just too bad because it will come back at us someday, somehow.
Sometimes, a little quicker, a little smarter, a little more sensitive, you know....just a little effort would really help.

People are stealing street light bulbs, rail bolts and nuts, creating manholes on highways, destroying infrastructure on top of the many issues that we already battling with as a nation.
These people are not aliens. They are amongst us, as our customers, friends, neighbours and family members.

We seriously need to do better.
