Some Red Flags In HR

Long Hiring Window: Some organisations take about 6month to a year to wrap up an application process. This is unnecessary and wrong.

A person who needs a job, needs it quickly. If you are not ready to take new employees do not start the process besides you are not the only organisation looking to hire. You may lose good hands while wasting time.

No Replies: Many HR managers are "guilty of radio silence" during hiring process. We understand that you have too many CVs to process but if you start early enough it shouldn't be problem.

If you put out job adverts, it is your responsibility to sieve through all the applications and get back to applicants.

You can use automated messages for the CV submission process but make sure to get back to applicants (including those who didnt make it through to the next stage) after every stage of the application process.

Too many JDs: Some HR muddle up too many job descriptions for a simple task.

I.e. You want to higher a PR manager, ability to do graphics or/and video editing are some of your requirements. This is wrong. Graphics and video editing are two separate jobs that require time, skills and attention to details.

It is possible to find someone who has all the skills but very wrong and unrealistic to expect such person to give their best as a result of over-work and stress.

Relying on test alone: Test book knowledge is often world apart from the practical thing. So, relying on test questions and answers alone may not be a good idea.

Inability to spot softskills: Beyond degrees and certifications HR must have the eyes and nose to see and sniff our workers key strength especially as regards their leadership and communication abilities. That way, it's easier to assign roles based on strength rather than qualification.

Inability to develop potentials: As a HR professional, you must have an appetite for seeing people succeed rather than fail on the job. It is your duty to help them ease their struggles and reach maximize their potentials.

Not creating conducive workplace: The office culture is very key. If its toxic workers would leave no matter how good the pay at some stage in life/time people choose peace over everything else.
