Kindness isn’t an open tab
Lately, I receive so many requests on a daily basis that I honestly start to wonder if I’m living in a different world.
Yes! we all agree these are hard times.
Everyone is going through something. But I still struggle to understand how someone can sit comfortably in their home and place demands on another person to meet their personal needs without any real value exchange.
Don’t get me wrong…life happens. Unexpected problems arise, and sometimes we genuinely need help from others. That’s normal. That’s human…But how does a grown adult convince themselves that taxing another adult for their birthday or weekend chilling is reasonable?
Who doesn’t have a birthday?
House rent, school fees sef no dey my list of emergency expenses talk less of birthday or wedding. Let’s get serious…
I like to think of myself as a generous person. I give when I can, I show up when it matters. But I’m beginning to realize that many people who casually “ask” me for help don’t actually need help. They’ve simply grown comfortable taking my generosity for granted.
…Because tell me…Out of all the challenges someone could be facing in this world right now, birthday celebration is what we’re stressing people about?
In these unprecedented times?
I mean, we can expect certain things from our loved ones or a significant other but not everybody nau…
Some requests don’t come from necessity; they come from entitlement.
And honestly…
Wetin concern me with your birthday?
How about allowing people to “freely” give? How about creating a valuable relationship that actually puts people in the position to “owe” favors?
Hard times call for compassion, yes! But they also call for boundaries.
Kindness should never become entitlement and generosity should never feel like obligation.
We’re all carrying our own loads, fighting silent battles, and trying to stay afloat.
So before placing demands on someone else, pause and ask if it’s truly a need or just convenience.
In these times especially, respect people’s limits. Hard times, hard boundaries.

Nice write ups
