We Can Influence A Change: If We Just Dont Keep Quiet

Image
Claudia I moved into a new environment a while ago. I loved the house et al but (access) road was in a terrible state.  As soon as I moved in I started to bombard the local government and ministry of works on social media.  Guess what?  Barely 2months after, work commenced on that road. Thanks to the responsive-social media-friendly government of Lagos. Though at a slow pace but something that has been ignored for over a decade is being attended to.  Work in progress! Just recently I booked a (Lagos-Abuja) return flight for a friend on Maxair.  He was supposed to be on the 6.40am flight to Abuja but with no prior information or explanation (as usual) flight was delayed for over 2hours not until I started to call them out on social media did they announce boarding. First experience gone wrong. My friend had a 9.00am...what a disappointing experience.  By 2pm he was done with his engagement in Abuja only to receive news that his 6.40pm return flight to Lagos ...

Women Invest More In Relationships

Image
It's always hard to make up your mind on starting a new relationship. Many women would hang in there just because "I dont want to go over this again".  As much as men enjoy being "all over the place", there's hardly any woman who wants to just be sharing her body with every Tom, Dick and Harry.  Olosho sef would be willing to "relax and be taken kiaroff" if the price is right. Relationships may seem fun but its alot of work.  As you go along you’d realize how hard and stressful it gets.  It takes two people that really want it, to make the relationship work.  There's really no manual for how to make it work for sure. While men would love to jump into it for fear of being "zoned", women would prefer to go with friendship if they like you already because it's a whole lot more than sex and feasting for us. When a relationship ends, the heartbreak is heavier on the woman. A woman has to be more picky with who she dates as she also h...

Alausa Passport Control Officer, T.A Gbadamosi Retires

Image
T.A Gbadamosi  Officers and friends celebrate Mr. Tajudeen Gbadamosi as he bows out of active service. T.A Gbadamosi as he was popularly known was former Deputy Comptroller of Immigration and Passport Control Officer (P.C.O), Alausa passport office before his retirement from service. An embodiment of hardwork and team-spirit, Mr. Gbadamosi was an amazing officer whose impact would remain among colleagues for a very long time. He was one of the finest officers who worked tirelessly to ensure that the positive reforms led by the Comptroller General of immigration, Muhammad Babandede was not in anyway undermined. No doubt, his absence would be felt. The incoming Passport Control Officer (PCO), DCI John Dashe described their relationship as very cordial and promised to uphold the standards that the outgoing PCO, Gbadamosi has set at Alausa passport office.  Barr. Adeyemi Akinlolu who graced the event with his wife, Olayinka Adeyemi who is Director of public prosecution at the Lago...

Parenting is a huge responsibility

Image
Claudia  Dear Parents, I hope we're not leaving the responsibility of "raising" our kids to teachers and helps alone. Money is not all it takes. Infact money is a small part in raising children. When you do get to spend time with them, What are you talking to them about? What life lessons are you sharing with them? How do you resolve issues among them? How do you relate with them? Especially your sons. I hope you're not just buying them PS5 to play their lives away. Are you teaching them grooming and cleanliness? Do your daughters know that being female is not an excuse for "entitlement mentality". In teaching them to have self-esteem/confidence I hope you remember to teach them to be humble and respectful. I hope you are raising them to use their initiatives. To think and reason to solve problems and not to look-on or un-look. Life has really changed and it keeps changing. The train is moving so fast it waits for no one. I hope we're living ...

Some Red Flags In HR

Long Hiring Window: Some organisations take about 6month to a year to wrap up an application process. This is unnecessary and wrong.  A person who needs a job, needs it quickly. If you are not ready to take new employees do not start the process besides you are not the only organisation looking to hire. You may lose good hands while wasting time. No Replies: Many HR managers are "guilty of radio silence" during hiring process. We understand that you have too many CVs to process but if you start early enough it shouldn't be problem.  If you put out job adverts, it is your responsibility to sieve through all the applications and get back to applicants.  You can use automated messages for the CV submission process but make sure to get back to applicants (including those who didnt make it through to the next stage) after every stage of the application process. Too many JDs: Some HR muddle up too many job descriptions for a simple task.  I.e. You want to higher a PR...

NIS Commissions Technology Building in Abuja

Image
Yours Truly In Abuja for the official commissioning of the Nigeria Immigration Service technology building at the NIS headquarters. The NIS has experienced tremendous improvements and development under the leadership of Muhammed Babandede MFR. The project which began in 2018 by Julius Berger construction company has now finally been completed and set to take off as the information hub and communication centre of the NIS. The centre will serve as an intelligence sharing unit that would work in collaboration with other security and intelligence structures in Nigeria and across the globe. The event would be graced by serving ministers and heads of service as President Muhammadu Buhari officially declares the building open. This project is one of the milestones of the Muhammadu Buhari led administration and an achievement of the Honorable Minister of Interior who is on a mission to "set a new security agenda for Nigeria".

Why I Stopped Paid Employment

Image
Claudia  I stopped paid employment because you can hardly satisfy a Nigerian employer if you're not suffering on the job. Most organisations here have toxic work culture. People carry their seniority mentality from secondary school into the workplace. I used to overwork (that's literally how we work here). Do all that and more.  While working for Nigerian firms, I thought hardwork was good work till I started working with a Ghanaian firm where you get upto 2weeks to deliver one article yet they pay on time. I shock! A Nigerian company will expect you to deliver 5 to 10 contents (articles) in a week.  How?....& for what? Worst still, if you have a terrible superior your work may never pass. It's more like a "dog eat dog" situation where correction is not done with "your growth" in mind. You'll be feeling drained and looking overused and abused all the time. That's why their HR be like "can you work under pressure?" As if it's a g...
